A Case Study in Bespoke Wedding Design

Vogue-Inspired Photobooth

Prior to their June wedding, A&J approached us with the bold and exciting idea of creating a ‘Vogue-style’ photobooth, a 6’ x 8’ box booth with bespoke print and luxury lining, designed to look like a magazine cover for their guests to enjoy on their Wedding Day.

At first, I’ll admit, we were sceptical that we would be able to transport something of this size and potential fragility, but we are not ones to shy away from a challenge.

After all, this is exactly the kind of grand idea we love to bring to life: DESIGN // CREATE // DELIVER.

The Brief

When the idea was presented to us, the couple was sure in what they wanted from this experiential aspect of their day:

  1. Big enough to fit 6-8 people

  2. Bespoke text on the front

  3. To be a Vogue-style design

It was quite a simple sounding request, but there were elements we needed to add in too:

  1. Modular - so we could take it apart to transport and store it

  2. Robust - it needed to withstand all weather conditions and guests after a few drinks

  3. Reusable - the text on the front needed to be removable, so we could hire it out to future clients

  4. Self-sufficient - there could not be any cabling around it to cause trip hazards

They sent over their inspo pics from Instagram posts and we knew we could deliver something of an unmatched quality.

It quickly became an exciting project throughout the office, with ideas spilling out left and right.

Design

It then got passed onto the Production team to design the photobooth.

They pulled together a render of the project, where we really saw it come to life for the first time.

We took our time deciding on materials, as we needed it to have a clean, chic feel to it when it was finished.

A wooden frame and perspex screen provided the clean and crisp look we needed for the structure, and we knew a satin interior and fitted lighting added that luxe, glossy aesthetic we needed to transform it and give it a real magazine cover feel.

Create

Once it was designed and signed off by the client, our Production team took to its build.

As they had decided on a modular design, the build of each frame was relatively simple, but took time due to the sheer size of the project…

As it turned out, one of the most complex challenges of the whole project was its size.

Whilst we knew it needed to be a large structure to fit the desired number of people in it, we also needed to find the space to build it, as well as transporting it to and from the venue and storing it after the fact.

We also had to find someone who was crazy enough to supply us with a 6’ x 8’ piece of perspex… Size was a huge factor we had to consider at all times.

The lighting also took a little bit of perfecting before we got to the final product.

We had to try a couple of lighting styles to get [1] the right fit and [2] the desired effect whilst maintaining [3] the self-sufficient nature of the booth.

All of this meant we had a lot of late nights on this project. Some team members didn’t think it was going to be a big hit, whilst others believed in it wholeheartedly. There really was a mixed impression of the project around the team.

Deliver

As the booth was designed to be modular, it was built in position onsite and final touches were added: The satin draping went in (to prevent any damage during transport), some scuffs in the paint needed touching-up, the protective sheet on the vinyl could finally be removed and the lighting fixtures secured.

And 1.5 hours later, our Vogue-style photobooth came to life.

At first, I couldn’t quite believe how good it looked. We had spent so long with it being planks of wood and sheets of perspex, I had almost forgotten what we were working towards… And this was so much better than I could ever imagine.

The florist dressed the bottom of the booth with whimsical, garden florals to match the rest of the venue and it really helped the booth blend into the day, whilst being a complete stand-out feature.

From the moment guests began arriving at the venue, the booth was a hit. People were switching in and out of it all day for their individual, group, couple and family photos.

When the Bride and Groom got into the booth that evening following their outfit changes and posed as if it was for their wedding photoshoot with actual Vogue, I wept.

The booth genuinely created the most magical moment and gave them a space to be silly and goofy with one another, whilst looking absolutely stunning under the ‘studio lighting’.

All the hard work truly became worth it at that point and I don’t think I’ll ever get over that feeling.

The Result

Our Vogue-style photobooth elevated the guest experience at A&J’s wedding, giving people something fun to do and stunning to look at (along with so many other aspects of their day). It added personality to the grounds, and an interesting photo opportunity - possibly unlike something they had experienced before.

Because it was completely customisable, A&J were able to choose what they wanted the ‘magazine cover’ to read - ensuring their names, wedding date, and location were featured.

And with the addition of the florals, the photobooth matched the theme of the wedding perfectly.

Due to the emphasis A&J had put on guest experience, this wedding was always going to be one to remember… But this photobooth truly made its mark this day.

Not only being a popular talking-point for guests, but it will live on in the wedding photos forever, and, my gosh, the wedding photos are incredible.

No matter how extravagant your idea might seem, we will always want to hear it. Because no matter the challenges we face along the way, the result is always worth it.

If you have an idea and want to explore its possibilities, get in touch with us today.

‘We are SO thankful and highly recommend you think about working with them to bring your wedding dreams to life.’ - A

Thank you to A&J for trusting us with their vision. We love you guys.
