7 Wedding Trends We Can't Wait To See In 2024
I won’t lie to you… I love a trend. I love to see how much the industry changes and evolves year on year, how it reflects its time, and how it can be an inspiration for great ideas. I particularly love blending tradition and innovation, curating experiences that reflect timeless romance whilst feeling as though they take into account the era and couples’ personalities.
We, as Wedding Planners, need to stay ahead of trends and be aware of what is popular at any one time - whether we like it or not. We can’t bank on our couples having the exact same tastes as us and, let's be honest, our portfolios would be so boring if each wedding was just a repetition of the last.
Stepping into 2024, the wedding landscape has fresh perspectives that will soon be taking over our screens. Throughout this post, we’ll have a quick look into 7 Wedding Trends for 2024.
We're about to unravel the trends that are catching our eye this year, as well as shouting out those that survived 2023 and will continue into the months to come.
Ethereal Colour Palettes
Colour trends for last year were bright, sunset-type colours, with Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2023 (Viva Magenta) taking centre stage as a pop of colour alongside summer pastels and neutrals.
We’re expecting this to continue into 2024, following the announcement of Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2024: Peach Fuzz.
Stunning… Just stunning
However, another big trend for this year is going to be ethereal colour palettes. Peach Fuzz can certainly find its place in this palette, but expect deeper colours, like celestial blues and purples, and muted pastels, as well as the brights flowing in from 2023.
Focus on Sustainability
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, here at Melt, we are painfully aware that the Events Industry is not too environmentally-friendly. Thus, we like to make adjustments wherever we can to reduce our environmental impact. Not only do we do this in our everyday lives, we encourage our clients and couples to do this too.
The increasing awareness of the need for sustainable options within the Wedding Industry has filled us with much hope over the past few years, that things are really starting to change.
As people explore more eco-friendly decor options, shop second-hand and source seasonally and locally, we are seeing that not only are there benefits on the planet, but on the individuality of each wedding.
It is worth remembering that it is not necessary to sacrifice elegance or sophistication in the name of sustainability, you just need to find the patience to not always take the easy route.
Interactive Food Experiences
We saw interactive food experiences soar in 2023, with a mass increase in family-style dinners, grazing boards, dessert tables etc. and, to be honest, I’m here for it.
The formal dining experience can be special, but the informal brings people together in a completely different way. It’s more interactive, more engaging and makes your guests feel as though they are a part of the experience.
At the end of the day, it just depends what suits you both as a couple.
This method of catering can also make it easier to cater to a number of dietary requirements. Not only that, but giving guests more choice and autonomy not only means they get to have a say about what and how much they eat, but it can also reduce food waste - which is friendlier on the planet and your pocket.
Maximalist Floral Designs
We’ve spend the last year reducing our florals down to single-stem arrangements… And I’ve loved every second of it. But we’re going bigger for 2024…
We’re seeing big, bold blossoms stealing the show this year, with bouquets hosting oversized floral buds that have a breathtaking visual impact. Think hanging florals, arches, walkways, staircases… This will be so much more than the minimalistic we’ve been seeing in 2023.
Similarly to 2023, however, we will there will be a true fusion between decor and florals; from disco balls and feathers, to crystals and vines sneaking their way in.
I will admit, I am such a sucker for a minimalist, single-stem, bud vase, whimsical-style floral theme, so I really won’t be mad to see more of this from my couples in 2024, but I am excited for the larger, more extravagant displays too.
Unconventional Photography Styles
A photography trend that I’ve seen to be polarising for photographers in 2023 is ‘blurry’ pictures. This has truly taken the Wedding Industry by storm, with more and more couples wanting to capture their day out of focus.
Whilst it’s looking like we’ll see less of this in 2024, we will continue to see couples requesting documentary-style, film camera and candid photography and videography, with the ‘retro camera’ look being the rage at the moment.
As well as this, we are seeing a rise in drone photography/videography. This is still a relatively new concept to a lot of people, but more suppliers are offering it as a part of their packages… Why not explore it and see if it’s something you could see working for you?
It can add a whole new perspective to your day and if you've paid a lot of money for a stunning venue, why not showcase it with this photography style? Drone footage can be a sure-fire way to get broad shots, helping with large group photos and venue/setting photos.
Mismatched Bridesmaids Dresses
Again, one of my favourite things to come out of 2023 and I hope to continue for years to come.
Universal bridesmaids dresses are traditional and that’s lovely, but I think mixing it up within your colour scheme, making it more tonal, allowing something that fits and suits each bridesmaid is so much more effective than the universal, one colour, one style dress.
I also think this translates in your photos. When people feel good about themselves and are comfortable in what they’re wearing, it shows in how they walk, how they stand, how they smile.
You will be able to see a difference.
Champagne Towers
I know, I know, you’re sick of them by now and wondering how I still want to see these at every wedding… But I do.
I find champagne towers so elegant, yet fun and exciting - I’ve even heard of people doing one instead of cutting a cake.
I’ll say no more, as I know you don't want to hear it.
The key to trends is not to fall captive to them. It’s important you don’t follow the crowd with something you don’t really like, just because someone said it’s trendy.
If you love green and white as the basis for your colour palette, who cares if anyone else says ‘that’s so last year’.
Your wedding should be a true reflection of you as a couple, celebrating the unity of the two of you and your personal flair.
Trends will come and go - that’s just how it works… But your wedding day is yours forever.
Cheers to the year ahead, I hope it's a good one.
